U.S. blacklists Bahraini national over terror activities

09:13, July 18, 2012

WASHINGTON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The United States on Tuesday added a Bahraini national, an alleged member of al-Qaida, to its global terrorists list over terror activities.

The move entails sanctions against Ahmed Abdulrahman Sihab Ahmed Sihab, also known as Abdulrahman al-Sharqi, including freezing all his assets under U.S. jurisdiction and barring U.S. citizens from doing business with him.

The State Department said Sihab has been publicly charged with planning terrorist attacks as a member of al-Qaida and has trained members of the terrorist group in terrorist tactics, techniques and procedures.

Since January 2007, Sihab has been wanted for extradition by the government of Bahrain for participating in terrorist activities and an Interpol Red Notice has been issued for his arrest, the department said.

"The action taken against this individual demonstrates the continued resolve of the United States in eliminating al-Qaida's ability to execute attacks," the agency said in a statement.
