MOSCOW, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Russia is seeking ways to fulfill its military contracts with Syria, but will not sign new ones during the current turmoil, the deputy head of a federal agency in charge of supervising arms trade said Wednesday.

Russia has not suspended the current arms contracts with Damascus and is trying "various options" to deliver air defense systems and repaired helicopters to Syria in time, Vyacheslav Dzirkaln, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technological Cooperation, told reporters during the Farnborough international airshow in Britain.

"We have to fulfill (Russia's contracts), and we will fulfill them," Interfax news agency quoted Dzirkaln as saying.

Russia is trying to carry out the delivery of contracted weapons to Syria "without causing damage to ourselves and provocations from forces who are interested in this," Dzirkaln added.

Russia will not sign any new arms contracts with Syria until the situation in the conflict-torn Arab country stabilizes, said Dzirkaln.

Meanwhile, Moscow is not assisting the Syrian army with Russian military specialists, said the official, adding that those working in Tartus are only serving at a Russian Navy logistics center in that Syrian port city.
