Every year on June 14, countries worldwide mark the day by carrying out events to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to recognize regular blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. The South African National Blood Services, a non-profit organization that provides human blood for transfusion that operates in South Africa, joined in the campaign. (Xinhua/Li Qihua)
