CHICAGO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Police said a gunman, who on Friday held several people as hostage in a real estate office in Valpapaiso, a small city in Indiana State of the U.S., shot himself after all hostages were released.

A gunman looking for someone he believes owes him money took fewer than 10 hostages earlier Friday and shot himself before the police broke into the building, reported Chicago Tribune on Friday, quoting the local police as saying.

The police said there was a "brief exchange of gunfire" when officers arrived and the last two hostages has got out of the building unharmed after 3 p.m. The police added that the gunman shot himself twice in the head and was taken to a hospital.
