RIO DE JANEIRO, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff said on Thursday that high interest rates, exchange rate fluctuations and excessive taxes are major problems in the country, and stressed that those problems will not be solved immediately.

Speaking at the inauguration of new Labor Minister Brizola Neto, the President called for lower interest rates and taxes and criticized other countries' policies, which she said led to the appreciation of the Brazilian Real.

"We want a country with interest rates compatible with those practiced in the international market. We want our exchange rate not to be the object of expansionist monetary policies which artificially appreciate the Brazilian currency and make our products less competitive. And we want lower taxes," she said.

Rousseff said her administration is committed to inflation rate control. She also commented on the current unemployment rates, saying that unlike Europe or the U.S., Brazil is generating jobs. "We are going in the opposite direction as it is happening abroad. Brazil is in an era of creating jobs," she said.
