UNITED NATIONS, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council is considering deploying a first mission to Syria upon the recommendation of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, who holds the rotating council presidency for April, told reporters here on Thursday.

Rice, while addressing reporters here, said that the proposed plan will include "deployment in approximate 10 locations throughout Syria," in response to the continued, and escalating violence in the Middle East country.

The six-member advance team of the UN observers are in Syria to monitor a fragile ceasefire between the Syrian government forces and armed opposition fighters. Ban recommended in his letter to the Security Council on Wednesday night that an expanded of 300 observers are needed to monitor the compliance by the Syrian parties with the peace plan negotiated by Kofi Annan, the joint special envoy of the UN and Arab League for Syria.
