Mexican president in Cuba to raise ties

HAVANA, April 11(Xinhua) -- Cuban President Raul Castro held talks Wednesday with his visiting Mexican counterpart Felipe Calderon to discuss ways to promote ties.

"Both leaders expressed their mutual interest in strengthening their friendship and cooperative relations and discussed regional and international issues," said an official statement released after their talks.

Upon his arrival at the Havana International Airport, Calderon told reporters that the goal of his trip to the island nation was to "lift relations with Cuba to the highest level."
