DPRK ruling party sets up new post of party supreme leader

08:34, April 12, 2012

Pyongyang, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) has adopted a decision on revision of party rules, notably setting up a new post of "first secretary" for the party's supreme leader, the official KCNA news agency reported early Thursday.

At the fourth WPK conference on Wednesday, Kim Jong Un was elected first secretary of the party.

Under the proposed rules, "the new post of first secretary of the WPK will be created and he will represent and lead the whole party as its head and will materialize the ideas and line of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il," said KCNA.

The proposal for the revision of the WPK rules presented to Wednesday's conference also defined that late leader Kim Jong Il is the eternal general secretary of the WPK and eternal leader of the WPK and the Korean people.

It also said that the WPK is the party of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, "reflecting the unanimous desire and wish of all the party members and other people," said KCNA.

The WPK will take Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as the only guiding idea of the party and hold fast to the policy of modeling the whole society on Kimilsungism and Kimjongilism as the supreme program of the party, according to the proposal.

"It (the WPK) will struggle for the victory of the cause of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, the revolutionary cause of Juche, under the leadership of Kim Jong Un," said the proposal.
