PYONGYANG, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been appointed chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the official KCNA news agency reported early Thursday.

The appointment was made during the fourth WPK conference on Wednesday, said the report.

The conference also appointed Kim as a member of the political bureau of the Party Central Committee, and a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee, it added.
