MOSCOW, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Russia on Monday welcomed the agreement reached in Mali which is aimed to settle the political crisis in the African country, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

"We call on all sides concerned to concretize the framework agreement with no delay and to implement the principal provisions reached in it," the ministry said in a statement.

Moscow believed these moves would give the Malian people an opportunity to concentrate on solving the northern territories problem based on preserving unity and territorial integrity in the country, and counter terrorism and separatism threats in the entire Sahara-Sahelian region, the ministry said.

It added that Moscow was also satisfied that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has allowed to lift its sanctions against Mali which had been introduced after a military coup in the country.

According to media reports, Mali's junta, which seized power on March 22, signed a framework agreement with the ECOWAS on Friday, stating that it would transfer power to the president of the National Assembly during the transitional period, in return for the lifting of sanctions imposed by the ECOWAS.
