KATHMANDU, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Nepali Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Monday appointed Raj Kishor Yadav as the minister for Information and Communications, and Iqbal Ahmed as the minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Yadav and Ahmed were appointed to fill in the vacant posts on the recommendation of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Republican of which the two are senior leaders.

The two cabinet posts had remained vacant after JP Gupta, who was fulfilling the responsibility of Minister for Information and Communications in Bhattarai's cabinet, was jailed on Feb. 21 after he became the first sitting minister to be convicted on corruption charges by the Supreme Court while the prime minister sacked Minister Nandan Kumar Dutta from the cabinet on March 26.
