Afghan, NATO forces detain 3 Taliban local leaders: NATO

KABUL, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have captured three Taliban local leaders elsewhere in the militancy-plagued Afghanistan on Friday, a statement of the alliance released here said.

These people were arrested during joint operations in Khost, Logar and the Taliban hotbed the Helmand provinces, according to the statement.

"An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in Nad 'Ali district, Helmand province, today," the statement added.

according to the statement, the arrested leader organized roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in Helmand province, besides supplying insurgents with materials for building explosive devices.

Two more arrested men, according to the statement belonged to Haqqani network, the military wing of Taliban outfit, have been detained in Khost and Logar provinces.

However, the statement did not reveal the names of the arrested men. Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
