Egypt's largest Islamic party demands gov't resignation

09:50, March 30, 2012

CAIRO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Freedom and Justice Party ( FJP), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, reiterated on Thursday its call for the resignation of the current interim government led by Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri.

Hussein Ibrahim, head of the FJP's parliamentary commission at the People's Assembly, accused government ministers of failing to deal with various crises currently experienced by the country and demanded the government resign, the website of the Muslim Brotherhood said in a statement.

Ibrahim said the process to withdraw confidence from the government started on Thursday.

"We demand the formation of a coalition government immediately. We do have programs and plans ready to energize and rejuvenate this homeland," he said.

Last Saturday, the Muslim Brotherhood listed in a statement a number of failures of the current government in management of the domestic affairs.

The FJP, which won 47 percent of the People's Assembly seats, is the largest bloc in the parliament. Speakers of the two houses of parliament are members of the party.

Egypt is scheduled to hold its presidential vote in late May. The ruling military council pledges to transfer power by June 30.
