A Western photographer has gained unique access to the spectacular state sponsored games of North Korea.

The show, known as 'Mass Games' in North Korea, is performed by more than 100,000 gymnasts, acrobats, and dancers.

Aside from the spectacular routines, the most breathtaking element of the display is when 30,000 school children come together and form the world's largest picture.

Similar to boards which are held by crowds during football matches, the huge mosaic is made from individual crew members holding a book.

When they each turn one of the 170 pages at the same time, the picture jumps into animation without flaw, due to rehearsals beginning seven months previously.
