09:28, March 29, 2012

COLOMBO, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Opening the premier trade exhibition, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday said post-war Sri Lanka will be a hub of trade and commerce in the region.

"This is fully in keeping with our goal to make Sri Lanka the hub of commerce and trade activity in the region and very soon in Asia too," Rajapaksa said to a large audience.

Rajapaksa stated with the end of ethnic war in 2009, there is a rapid development in the trade and commerce in Sri Lanka and over the past year foreign direct investments have been doubled.

The country's largest mega trade, investment and tourism promotion initiative, "Expo 2012" from March 28-31 in the capital Colombo is held with the aim of drawing 12.5 billion U.S. dollar revenues from the export sector this year.

The exhibition is held under the theme of "Partnering with the Hub of Asia."

Over 370 exhibitors participate the exhibition which has drawn 1,350 visitors from 55 countries, the organizer said.

The Expo 2012 has attracted no fewer than six ministerial delegations and around 100 foreign journalists.
