Bushfire threatens residential properties in Western Australia

14:12, March 13, 2012

SYDNEY, March 13 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 firefighters are battling a bushfire near the south-west Western Australian town of Donnybrook, authorities said on Tuesday.

Western Australia's Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) said there were 126 firefighters and 23 trucks working to strengthen containment lines around the blaze.

The fire, which has burnt around 178 hectares of bushland, started in the Ellis plantation near Donnybrook.

The DEC warned the potential for severe fire remained in the area due to the steep lopes and dry fuels and the blaze could still break containment lines and head towards residential properties.
