Sydney family home sprayed with bullets

14:02, March 13, 2012

SYDNEY, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A home at Bexley in Sydney's south has been sprayed with bullets overnight, while four residents were inside the house, the New South Wales (NSW) Police said on Tuesday.

A crime scene at the house on Princes at Bexley has been established by police after it was hit by a number of bullets.

Two girls and their parents were woken by the sound of gunshots just after midnight.

Police said several bullets were fired into the front of the home, with one entering through a window, but the two children aged nine and 10 and their parents were not injured.

Neighbors told police that they heard a vehicle accelerating away from the scene but was unable to give further description.

Opposition Leader John Robertson told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) that it was the 67th shooting since the Coalition came to power a year ago.

He has called on Premier Barry O'Farrell to take a harder line against criminals.
