Air traffic controllers meet in Nepal to address common concerns

KATHMANDU, March 12 (Xinhua) -- More than 500 delegates from 73 countries gathered here Monday for the 51st annual conference of International Air Traffic Controllers' Association (IFACTA)to discuss ways to enhance professionalism in air traffic system around the world.

Opening the session, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said the management of aviation is very complex and the common understanding will help professionals in the field to achieve the goals.

He said Nepal supports the process of liberalization of the aviation policy and increase global accessibility of Nepali sky to the world.

Under the theme of "One Voice, One Capability, One Sky," the five-day conference is aimed to develop professionalism, promote tourism and share high standard of knowledge and technology.

Alexis Brathwaite, president and CEO of IFACTA, said that improving global air traffic management system is the ultimate goal of the conference.

"We are in need to rise above the local conditions to meet international standard to promote high knowledge and professional efficiency all over the world," he said.

On his part, Nepal's Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar said that government of Nepal is ready to implement policies and programs in the interest of safety of civil aviation.

IFATCA holds total membership of 50,000 companies from some 137 countries around the world.

It is the first time that a South Asian nation plays host to the event since the formation of the IFACTA in 1961.
