PARIS, March 5 (Xinhua) -- France took note of Russia's presidential candidate Vladimir Putin's lead of the presidential race, adding to efforts to make Russia lifting its veto on Syria's resolution, French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said here on Monday.

"We have taken note of the provisional results of the Russian presidential election indicating a clear victory of Vladimir Putin from the 1st round," the French official said.

Valrto noted that the French President Nicolas Sarkozy was expected to comment later on Putin's win of the runoff.

"Regarding Syria, Russia is an indispensable partner in resolving the crisis...We will continue working with our Russian partners and strive to persuade them to support the efforts of the Arab League and help Syrian people," he added in a daily e-briefing.

On Monday, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the victory of the incumbent Prime Minister Vladimir Putin who won about 64 percent of the votes.

However, monitors from the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe watchdog (OSCE) noted complaints of opposition leaders who denounced unfair election and planned fresh street protests.

"We are currently reviewing the preliminary report of the ... (OSCE) on this election which has just been released," Valero added.
