JAKARTA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Foreign Ministry will host a regional interfaith dialog on March 12-15 in Central Java provincial capital city of Semarang to promote regional peace, an official said here on Friday.

Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Michael Tene told a press briefing that the meeting will raise the theme of 'Strengthening Collaborative Communities to Promote Regional Peace and Security: Interfaith in Action'.

He said that the forum is an initiative of Indonesia that is initiated by the Foreign Ministry and the Religion Ministry.

He said that it would be the sixth forum following the same meeting in Indonesia's Yogyakarta in 2004, the Philippines' Cebu in 2006, New Zealand's Witangi in 2007, Cambodia's Phnom Penh in 2008 and Australia's Perth in 2009.

"It aims to promote mutual understanding and awareness as well trust among people's group with different religion and culture. The difference is expected to be the source of force and cooperation, not the cause of conflict," said Tene.

He added that the dialog will involve religious leaders, academicians, public figures and mass media.

"The dialog will be co-sponsored by Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines," said Tene.
