Magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits Russia's Siberia

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted Russia's southwestern Siberia on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

So far, there are no reports about possible casualties and destruction in the region.

The epicenter, with a depth of 11.70 km, was initially determined to be at 51.7314 degrees north latitude and 95.9207 degrees east longitude.

According to Russian media, the quake lasted for 4 to 5 minutes and was widely felt in the region.

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry is trying to reach its regional branches to verify the situation, the reports said.
