ISLAMABAD, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- German automaker MAN, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world, is investing heavily in building a truck and bus manufacturing plant in Pakistan, said a German official on Wednesday.

During a meeting with local officials in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore, German Embassy Commercial Section Head Samy Saddi said that the ongoing project launched by MAN in the country will not only create a large number of job opportunities to local people but also send a very positive signal to the investors in other developed countries.

According to the German diplomat, a number of other German companies are also planning to invest in Pakistan's alternate energy sector to help the country overcome its energy crisis.

The German Agriculture Minister will also come to explore new business avenues in Pakistan's agriculture sector in the next two or three months, he said, adding that the German government is taking all possible measures to strengthen the bilateral economic relations and the forthcoming visit of the German minister is very much part of the efforts made on the German side.

He said the German government had supported Pakistan to a great deal in winning EU concession for Pakistani goods and it would continue to support the country at all forums in future as well. He said Pakistan needed to focus on its image building to attract global investment as in the outer world the perception was quite contrary to the facts.

During the meeting, both sides agreed that the existing trade volume of 1.9 billion U.S. dollars had no match to the great potential of business the two countries have and appropriate sector-specific, result-oriented measures were called from both sides to curb the continuous fall of bilateral trade.
