LOS CABOS, Mexico, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday pledged U.S. assistance in Mexico's fight against transnational crime.

"We are doing all we can to support the Mexican government against the transnational crimes. We also believe strongly that the transnational crime is a global threat, not only a threat in Mexico," said Clinton at a news conference of the Group of 20 (G20) informal foreign ministers' meeting held in Los Cabos, a resort town in northwestern Mexico.

Clinton also said that the Obama administration was determined to keep close contact with its Mexican counterpart and aggressively pursue the illegal gang runners operated in the United States to end all the illegal movements of gangs along the border between the two countries.

Also on Monday, Clinton and Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa also signed an agreement to work together to drill for oil and gas under their maritime border in the Gulf of Mexico, which according to Clinton is to "ensure safe, efficient, responsible exploration of the oil and gas reservoirs."

Commenting on the meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Mexico, which holds the presidency of G20 this year, Clinton said it was a very excellent chance for the senior diplomats to connect informally.

"We increasingly see that strong connections between the traditional G20 financial issues and questions of economic development issues, environment and good governance," she said.
