SKOPJE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The UN special envoy on name dispute between Macedonia and Greece on Monday urged the two neighbors to solve their disagreement on the issue as quickly as possible.

"I come to Skopje with no new proposals, but an intention to find a way for a swift settlement to this issue," Matthew Nimetz said after his meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

Macedonia and Greece have been locked in a name dispute for more than 20 year.

Greece is opposed to its northern neighbor of being called Macedonia, arguing that the name indicates it harbors territorial ambition over Greece's northern province, also called Macedonia.

Nimetz said that the resolution of the issue is in the interest of the regional and global security.

"The sooner the issue is solved, the better it is for all," he said.

Greece has vetoed Macedonia's efforts to join NATO and blocked the country's bid to join the European Union over the name dispute.

I totally agree and it only highlights the validity of the argument.
