THE HAGUE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Dutch Prince Johan Friso is still in critical condition after being buried by an avalanche in Austria on Friday, the Dutch government information service RVD said on Sunday.

Although Prince Friso's condition is currently stable, "we have to take into account that a prognosis on his health situation could only be given by the end of this week," the RVD stated in a press release.

Last Friday, the 43-year-old Prince was buried under an avalanche while he was skiing in Litzen-Zugertobel near Lech.

He was freed by a rescue team after around 20 minutes, and was resuscitated and transported to a hospital in Innsbruck where he was still treated with the intensive care.

Austrian media reported a team of neurosurgical specialists have operated on the Prince on Saturday night as the prince may have suffered brain injury.

Friso is the second son of Queen Beatrix and the late Prince Claus and the younger brother of Willem-Alexander, heir of Beatrix.

He is no longer a candidate for the throne after he married Mabel Wisse Smit without the permission from the Dutch parliament.

Queen Beatrix and his wife visited Friso again on Sunday in the hospital. The whole royal family, including his elder brother and heir of the throne Willem-Alexander, are currently staying in a hotel in Lech, the same one they stay in every year for their traditional skiing holidays.
