PYONGYANG, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- New statues of two late leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) were unveiled here Tuesday.

The statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il riding horses were unveiled at a ceremony at the Mansudae Art Studio. Senior party, state and army leaders and officials of the studio attended the event.

Laid in front of the statues were floral baskets from Kim Jong Un, Kim Jong Il's son and current supreme leader of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

Kim Yong Nam, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, addressed the ceremony, calling on the DPRK people to carry forward the revolutionary tradition with immutable faith.

Choe Yong Rim, premier of the Cabinet, and Ri Yong Ho, chief of the KPA General Staff, also attended the ceremony. They are also members of Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee.

Kim Jong Il died on Dec. 17, 2011. His birthday, Feb. 16, which was made into a national holiday, has also been designated "the Day of the Shining Star."
