HAVANA, Feb.6 (Xinhua) -- The Tour of Cuba, the most important national cycling race was suspended for the second consecutive year, due to "strong economic constraints", the official Cuban media reported Monday.

The Tour of Cuba, the most important annual cycling race in Cuba, was canceled in 2011 due to "a reorganization" in the plan of national and international competitions of the Cuban National Sports and recreation Institute (INDER).

According to Jit, official daily of INDER, the 2012 Tour of Cuba will not be organized, because it was not included in the budget of the year.

The event was created in 1964 and was held every year as the main cycling competition on the island. But the event was suspended from 1991 till 1999, provoking the lost of an entire generation of cyclists in the country.
