Two dead, over 600 injured amid new protests in Egypt

16:10, February 03, 2012

CAIRO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Two people have died and more than 600 were injured in Egypt as new protests triggered by a recent football riot hit several places of the country.

Two were killed and 30 others injured in a shooting that occurred from Thursday evening until early Friday in Suez, official MENA news agency reported.

Local security authorities claimed that outlaws should be blamed for the deaths, the report said.

Meanwhile, 628 people were injured in clashes between police and protestors near the Interior Ministry building in Cairo on Thursday night. The police used tear gas canisters to prevent the crowds from reaching the building.

At least 74 people were killed and hundreds injured in a riot of football fans in Egypt's Port Said Stadium after a match on Wednesday night. The country declared a three-day mourning from Thursday to Saturday.
