BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Flooding is threatening the town of Charleville in southwest Queensland of Australia, and some residents were told to prepare for immediate evacuation, local media reported on Tuesday.

Authorities have advised residents in low-lying parts of the town to prepare to evacuate immediately as the water levels in Bradley's Gully, which runs through the town, are expected to rise significantly later on Tuesday, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said heavy overnight rain in the gully's catchment has led to big rises in Bradley's Gully.

Murweh Mayor Mark O'Brien told the ABC that about 30 homes and businesses in Charleville could be affected based on the weather forecast.

"The troops are out doorknocking and advising people - we will take all the normal precautions," he said.

Meanwhile, residents in the town of Eulo in southern inland Queensland are also preparing for flooding, with the Paroo River expected to peak later on Tuesday.
