SEOUL, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korea allowed a civic group to visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) next week to deliver flour aid, the government said Friday.

Some 180 tons of flour, provided by the (South) Korea Peace Foundation, will be delivered to elementary schools and nurseries in North Hwanghae Province during the civic group officials' two- day trip beginning on Jan. 27, according to the unification ministry.

It will mark the first such aid since the death of top DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il, as South Korea tentatively suspended humanitarian aid to its neighbor late last year following his sudden death.

Pyongyang's approval for the planned visit "might indicate the new leadership is taking root", Kim Hyung-suk, a spokesman for the ministry that oversees inter-Korean affairs, said in a press briefing.
