BRUSSELS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- NATO's top military advisor declined on Thursday to confirm reports that Pakistan would reopen the supply route to NATO forces in Afghanistan, but hoped a proper solution could be found soon.

General Knud Bartels, the new chairman of NATO's Military Committee, acknowledged that the alliance "definitely" need access to the supply route through Pakistan, which has been halted after a NATO cross-border air attack killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November last year.

"We are not in a desperate situation, logistically speaking for a time being. But it is an issue which has to be addressed in a reasonable time frame," he told reporters at NATO headquarters.

The Danish general said he just noticed reports that Pakistan would reopen the supply route for NATO, but he can't confirm it so far.

"My assessment is that Pakistan is moving in the right direction. We have to find a proper solution, which will be acceptable to both parties," he said.
