5-magnitude quake hits northern Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of five jolted northern Iran on Wednesday, state TV reported.

The earthquake shook the country's northern city of Sari at 20: 40 local time (1710 GMT), the report said, adding that the tremor has caused disruptions in communications via cell phones in the region.

The epicenter of the quake is still unknown and there were no immediate reports on damage or injuries.
