PARIS, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- French foreign ministry on Monday confirmed a French man was killed in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
"We confirm a French citizen was shot dead in Tripoli on Saturday, Jan. 7," the foreign ministry said in a press release, not giving any further details or the identity of the victim.
"We are in close contact with the Libyan authorities so that all light can be shed on the circumstances of this crime and so that those responsible can be brought to justice," said the ministry
French media report said the 60-year old victim, named Hugues de Samie, was found dead in his apartment in the center of the city.
He had been an army man, then left the military in the mid-2000s and had worked in Libya since 2008 for Construction Mecanique de Normandie (CMN), a French shipyard.
Media report said a suspect in the killing of the French citizen has been arrested by Libyan authorities.
