5.0-magnitude quake hits near the east coast of Honshu, Japan -- USGS

HONG KONG, Jan 6(Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 2012- 01-5 20:55 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 45.50 km, was initially determined to be at 35.84 degrees north latitude and 140.77 degrees east longitude.
