Hamas calls on PNA to halt talks with Israel

08:28, January 05, 2012

GAZA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Hamas movement on Wednesday called on the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to halt peace talks with Israel and stop behaving unilaterally without consulting the issues with other Palestinian factions.

The Hamas movement is astonished after Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat handed a documents related to security and borders to the Israelis during a meeting in Amman, Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said in a statement.

He said that his movement condemns the step "because the documents were not presented to the Palestinian factions before Erekat gave it to the Israelis," adding "these documents are not representing Erekat's personal view."

On Tuesday, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators held a series of meetings with Jordanian officials and representatives of the international Quartet for peace in the Middle East, and agreed to resume the peace talks.

"Hamas movement calls for stopping the meetings with the occupation and stop the status of exclusiveness and individuality in such strategic stations," Abu Zuhri said in the statement emailed to reporters.

Meanwhile, Fawzi Barhoum, another spokesman of Hamas said that the talks held in Jordan on Tuesday were "farce, comedy and a waste of time," adding "it contradicts with the hopes and aspirations of our people."
