TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Eleven Taliban insurgents were captured Tuesday in a special operation in the northern Afghan province of Takhar, an Afghan army commander said.

"A joint unit of Afghan army, police and NATO-led coalition forces raided a compound, which has been used by insurgents as a hospital in a remote area of Ishkamish district, Tuesday morning and detained 11 armed Taliban fighters," Basir Yayazada told Xinhua.

"Based on intelligence reports, the combined forces intended to capture a total of 10 foreigners, who have been serving as doctors to treat injured insurgents but they have fled the area before troops' arrival," Yayazada said.

Taliban insurgents have yet to make comments.
