LONDON, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Brazil has overtaken Britain as the world's sixth largest economy, said a thinktank in Britain on Monday.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), an economic research group, said that its latest World Economic League Table showed Brazil overtaking Britain was part of a growing trend while European countries were falling downward.

The United States still remained the biggest economy in the world for 2011, which is followed by China, Japan, Germany, France, Brazil, Britain, Italy, Russia and India.

The center also said the eurozone economy would shrink 0.6 percent in 2012 "if the euro problem is solved," or 2 percent if it is not.

It predicted that India, the world's 10th biggest economy in 2011, would be among the top five by 2020.

The report also said European countries would drop down the table, with Germany falling from fourth in 2011 to seventh in 2020, Britain from seventh to eighth, and France from fifth to ninth.

The ranking of the top ten economies for 2020 is forecast to change to the United States, China, Japan, Russia, India, Brazil, Germany, Britain, France and Italy, according to CEBR.
