BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- According to Yemeni medias and officials, thirteen people have been killed and 200 others wounded in clashes between protesters and government forces loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanaa.

Saturday's clashes took place when government forces attempted to drive the protesters away from a presidential compound.

The demonstrators, marching since Tuesday from the South, were demanding Saleh's prosecution. More than 20,000 protesters marched downtown chanting anti-government slogans.

Witnesses say the government forces used tear gas and water cannons and fired warning gunshots to disperse the rally, while the protesters threw stones in response.

An anonymous security official said four government soldiers were injured.

Organizers say the march aims to send a message to the UN Security Council and the Arab League about their demand for Saleh to face justice.
