CAIRO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League (AL) will send an advance team of its observer mission to Syria on Thursday, Deputy AL Secretary General Ahmed bin Helli said on Tuesday.

The team, headed by Samir Saif al-Yazal, assistant to AL chief Nabil al-Arabi, includes security, legal administrative experts and will head to Damascus on Thursday, the AL deputy chief said.

Meanwhile, the AL on Tuesday named Sudanese Mohammed Ahmed Mostafa al-Dabi as head of the AL observer mission to Syria, Helli said, adding that Dabi will come to Egypt soon to meet Arabi and then go to Damascus within days.

Helli hoped the mission would help implement the Arab initiative to find a way out of the Syrian crisis without international interference.

Syria signed the AL observer protocol on Monday in Egypt's capital Cairo after the pan-Arab group threatened to submit the issue to the United Nations Security Council.
