MOSCOW, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The leader of Russia's Yabloko party on Monday submitted the required documents to the Central Election Commission to run in the March 4 presidential election.

If the CEC accepts Grigory Yavlinksy as a presidential candidate, it will be the 59-year-old party leader's third bid for the presidency. Yavlinksy also participated in the 1996 and 200 presidential elections.

Yavlinksy's candidacy was supported by 106 representatives in the party's congress on Sunday, while three others backed his competitor -- actor Viktor Balabanov.

So far, all the leaders of Russia's four main political parties -- the ruling United Russia, the Communist Party, A Just Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia -- have been nominated as the presidential hopefuls.

In addition, billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov announced last Monday he would run in the election as an independent.

The Yabloko party, founded in 1993, failed to pass the 7 percent threshold in recent parliamentary elections and did not enter the new State Duma, or the lower house of parliament.
