JAKARTA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday named Abraham Samad, an activist who has been tough in fighting graft, as the new chairman of the country's anti-corruption watchdog at the State Palace, in a move to speed up efforts to combat rampant corruption in the country.

Abraham, who was also a lawyer, was elected by the parliament along with others deputy chairmen of the watchdog know as Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi or KPK) earlier this month, replacing Busro Muqoddas, whose term had been ended.

He was known as a founder of the Anti-Corruption Committee in South Sulawesi.

His tough stance against corrupt people is expected to ease his new task in fighting corruption in Indonesia which is expected to receive more foreign investment in the coming years as the country 's sovereign debt status has been raised by Fitch's rating agency to investment grade.

Public are waiting for Abraham move in fighting some big graft cases allegedly involved high profile politicians and top state officials.
