New York voters disapprove of mayor's handling of Occupy Wall Street protest

09:28, December 15, 2011

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Fifty-one percent of New Yorkers disapproved of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's handling of the Occupy Wall Street protest, while 42 percent approved, a Quinnipiac University poll revealed on Wednesday.

Bloomberg's overall job rating -- 49 percent approving and 42 percent disapproving -- remained virtually unchanged since earlier in the fall, but it is far below the 70-percent-range approval rating he enjoyed at the end of his second term in office, the survey showed.

Bloomberg authorized the New York Police Department in November to raid Zuccotti Park where anti-Wall-Street protesters had camped for nearly two months, clear out the encampment and arrest hundreds of people.

The poll was conducted Dec. 7-12 with a sample of 1,242 adults.
