Snapshots of Libya's Abu Salim prison

20:17, December 14, 2011

Yusuf Abedalwahed Alsaiede, 31, holds a AK-103 assault rifle at the cell he used to live at Abu Salim Prison, Tripoli, Libya, Oct. 6, 2011. Yusuf spent more than four months at this prison before he was released in Aug. 2011. Like Yusuf, three to five prisoners used to share a cell about ten square-meters in this prison. Abu Salim, where the Abu Salim prison is located, has been a symbolic area for Muammar Gaddafi's supporters. In 2011 September, over 1,270 bodies of prisoners were discovered by the NTC in the area. They were considered to have been killed by Gaddafi's forces in the notorious 1996 Abu Salim massacre. (Xinhua/Li Muzi)
