Russia's Duma speaker Gryzlov resigns

MOSCOW, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Boris Gryzlov, speaker of Russia's State Duma, lower house of the parliament, resigned Wednesday.

"Today I made a decision to give up my mandate," Gryzlov said in a statement.

But he said he would keep his membership in the ruling United Russia party.
