Amazon promises software update to improve tablet performance

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Amazon has promised a software update for its Kindle Fire tablet in less than two weeks, in response to complaints about the hot-selling product, U.S. media reported on Monday.

"In less than two weeks, we're rolling out an over-the-air update to Kindle Fire," Amazon spokesman Drew Herdener told The New York Times.

The online retail giant said there will be improvements in performance, multi-touch navigation and the option to edit the recent items customers have done on the device, said the report.

Kindle Fire has been a hot-selling Amazon product in the past weeks. Although it did not specify how many it has sold, Amazon has said Kindle Fire is the most successful product it has ever introduced and that it is building more to meet the strong demand.

However, although industry reviewers are happy to see the success of a non-iPad tablet, poor reviews have been piling up about the speed of Kindle Fire's Silk Brower, poor scrolling and lack of security as well as parent control.

Last week, Jakob Nielsen, a usability expert, said in a review on his personal website that Kindle Fire offered "a disappointingly poor" experience. More than 10 percent of one-star poor review also appeared on the Kindle Fire page on
