LUANDA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was expected to train Angolan staff and provide technical means for its population census scheduled for 2013, the first of its kind in the African country since the civil war ended in 2002, the official news agency Angop reported on Sunday.

This agreement was signed in Rio de Janeiro during a meeting between Angolan Minister of Planning Ana Dias Lourenco and IBGE officials, Angop said.

The Angolan minister was in Rio de Janeiro for a two-day visit to arrange for the training program with the academic authorities of the University of Ceara for Angolans in management and public policy, monitoring and control of public investments.

Angola is among the few countries in the world which have never conducted a population census, but independent estimates by international organizations put the population of the African country at some 18.5 million.
