Indonesian police receive patrol boats from Australia

18:59, December 06, 2011

JAKARTA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian police received three patrol boats granted by the Australian government, expected to help Indonesian police in intercepting human trafficking, smuggling activities and terrorism, local media reported here on Tuesday.

The type-C patrol boats were handed over by Australian Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor to Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo in Indonesia's water police headquarters here.

"Those patrol boats are purely granted by the Australian government without any condition. This grant was aimed at improving police's professionalism," Timur said in the ceremony to receive the Australian grant.

The Australian minister, who was present at the ceremony, said that the grant was based on the two countries' cooperation in eradicating inter-state crimes.

"We both are in the same efforts in eradicating human trafficking, and drug smuggling activities. So those boats would be very helpful to assist our tasks," Brendan was quoted by the Antara news service as saying.
