7 killed in road accident in southern India

NEW DELHI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and 15 injured early Monday morning when the van in which they were traveling collided with a bus near Salem in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, reported Press Trust of India.

The van from the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh was carrying nine Hindu devotees on their way to the famous Sabarimala hill shrine in Kerala, southern India, when the mishap occurred, said the report.

Deadly road accidents take place frequently in India, with at least 110,000 people killed on the road each year.
