Yemen's new cabinet, military-security committee to be formed in 48 hrs: official

11:06, December 05, 2011

SANAA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's new national government would be declared in 48 hours simultaneously with the formation of a military-security committee in line with the Gulf-brokered power- transfer deal, an official at the acting President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's office said on Sunday.

The official also told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that UN envoy to Yemen Jamal bin Omar would return to Sanaa within next six days to follow up the process of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2014 and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) deal.

The new opposition-led interim government will be headed by Prime Minister Mohamed Basindwa.

On Saturday, the opposition leaders urged Hadi not to delay the composition of the military-security committee which should be formed before the declaration of the new cabinet according to the GCC deal.

The opposition coalition and the ruling party agreed late last month on the GCC deal designed to end the 11-month-long turmoil that brought the impoverished Arab state on the verge of civil war and economic collapse.
