Belarus receives 2.5 billion U.S. dollars for stake in gas pipeline

MINSK, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Belarus has received 2.5 billion U.S. dollars from Russian Gazprom for a 50-percent stake in its gas transport monopoly Beltransgaz, the Belarusian National Bank said Thursday.

The selling of the remaining stake of Beltransgaz has increased the country's foreign exchange reserves, which exceed 8.92 billion. U.S. dollars.

Russia and Belarus signed new gas cooperation agreements last week, under which Belarus completed the sale of Beltransgaz to Gazprom, and Gazprom in exchange reduced the price for gas it will sell to Belarus in 2012 nearly by half to 165.6 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
